System WIM (Weight-in-Motion) begins to operate in full measure in Ukraine

From October 1, 2021, the automated weighing system WIM (Weight-in-Motion) begins to operate in full measure in Ukraine. This system consists of sensors embedded in the road surface, capable of reading the weight of the vehicle for checking for dimensional and weight violations. At first, the automatic fixation points will not work independently: all information from the WIM complexes will come to the inspectors of Ukrtransbezpeka, who will stop the vehicle and carry out a control weighing. If the violation is confirmed, a fine will be imposed. In the future, the system is planned to be fully automated: all information will be stored in special databases, and fines will be imposed automatically. Of course, these innovations will contribute to an increase in the number of fines. After all, even in cases where the maximum permissible weight is not exceeded, an overload on the axis of the vehicle caused by incorrect distribution of cargo can lead to a violation.
