Betting market analysis on routes between Asia and Europe
Marine container transportation from China to Europe are cyclical in nature, determined by seasonal demand combined with external factors. Thanks to our many years of experience in international logistics, we can share key stages of freight rate changes throughout the year and the main trends that influence pricing.
It all starts after the Chinese New Year, when the market goes into decline. Freight rates drop by $300-500 per TEU. This trend continues until the end of April. From May to July - the first half of August - the so-called Peak Season, the main reason for which is the increase in demand due to importers' preparations for the autumn-winter period. Because of this, liner operators are faced with vessel capacity constraints and are introducing a surcharge on freight Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on average $500–1000 per TEU to compensate for high demand.
However, according to the laws of the market, after each increase there is a decline. From the end of August, a gradual decrease in rates begins, which, unfortunately, does not last long - 1-1.5 months.
October marks the beginning of an active period when companies rush to complete deliveries by the end of the year, thereby increasing demand for container transportation, which leads to an increase in prices.
During the pre-New Year and New Year period, rates remain stable, with minor fluctuations within $200-300 per TEU until Chinese New Year.
External factors and force majeure circumstances, such as strikes, weather disasters or conflicts, also affect market pricing. Examples include the situation in the Red Sea (global changes in shipping routes), strikes in the USA (disruption of the circulation of empty equipment), downtime in Turkey (increased cargo traffic in the Black Sea region).
The sea container shipping market remains dynamic and subject to seasonal changes. Understanding these cycles allows you to effectively manage logistics and minimize costs. Working with professionals who track all market fluctuations guarantees stability and favorable conditions in any situation.
